
Betteer Than the Movie... Maybe
When this was first broadcast, I passed it up, turned off by the awkward looking animation style. That was a mistake. After scoring this on gray market DVD, I found out what a gem it is. The animation is actually pretty good... just a bit different. The story lines are good, incorporating a variety of villains in the ficticious world of Jumanji.
Two children, Judy and Peter Shepherd, play the magical board game, Jumanji, and are cast into a dangerous jungle world until they solve the clue the game gives them just before they are transported from their attic. As in the movie, Alan Parrish, a grown man who has lived in Jumanji since he was transported there as a child, helps Judy and Peter survive and solve their clues. Villains like the big game hunter Van Pelt, evil inventor Henry Ibsen, and scam artist Trader Slick are broken up by one-shot bad guys. Then there are the Manji tribesmen, a people whose language is a series of nonsensical noises, clicks, and Bronx...
